Program Summary

Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation's Conservation Easements program allows landowners to protect wildlife habitat in perpetuity while maintaining ownership of their land. In this program, landowners identify a portion of their property that is suitable for wildlife habitat. The Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation conducts an assessment and compensates the landowner for placing a conservation easement on their property.

This program aims to comprehensively protect wildlife habitat in perpetuity from degradation and removal.

Eligible Lands

Eligible landscapes include wildlife habitat on private land in Saskatchewan.

Additional Details

There is no deadline for applications.

Commitment

Participants in this program commit to setting aside a portion of their land to be managed for wildlife habitat, while maintaing overall ownership of the land. A conservation easement agreement between SWF and the landowner identifies the land use restrictions and requirements intended to protect the identified habitat.

Incentive

Direct compensation is available for landowners who grant a conservation easement on a parcel, based on the financial value of the easement. Specific compensation guidelines are only available from the SWF Central Office.

  • A SWF conservation easement agreement is registered on the title of the property and is in place in perpetuity.

  • The Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation currently has over 10,000 acres protected under conservation easements.
