Program Summary
The Siene Rat Roseau Watershed District Shelterbelt Program supports landowners in establishing shelterbelts on or near agricultural land, in partnership with ALUS Canada and 2Billion Trees initiative. It aims to reduce wind erosion, trap winter moisture, provide wildlife habitat, and contribute to carbon sequestration.

Eligible landscapes include croplands, rangelands, or pasturelands in the Seine Rat Roseau Watershed District.
Additional Details
The program is currently ongoing and is now accepting applications for shelterbelt projects to be established in the spring of 2024.
Total funding is currently unknown. Landowners are responsible for site preparation, planting seedlings, providing protection, and watering the shelterbelt.
Trees must be purchased by the landowner, who must submit the invoice prior to receiving funding.
Landowners must commit to refraining from altering, changing, or modifying the project without prior consent.

Commitment
The landowner commits to 10 years, subject to the agreement's terms and conditions.
Incentive
This program provides up to 100% coverage for tree purchases (up to an average of $5 per tree) and a $200 per acre payment for shelterbelt maintenance during the first five years. Staff also offer technical advice to assist with shelterbelt design.
