Conservation Goals
The Redboine Watershed District General Applications focus on water quality protection, ecosystem resilience, biodiversity enhancement, soil erosion control, and carbon sequestration. Its aim is to holistically address environmental sustainability while enhancing agricultural productivity.

Commitment
Participants in the Redboine Watershed District General Programs commit to one or more of the following:
Water Retention
Establishment of retention ponds, or water storage areas (permanent or temporary)
Temporary backfloods
Establishment of small dams, berms, and gated culverts
Grassed Run & Waterways Overland Flooding
Creation of new grassed runs
Enhancement or repair of existing grassed runs
Erosion Control
Construction and repair of erosion issues
Riparian Areas
Enhancement or restoration of riparian areas
Seeding to perennial grasses
Wetlands
Enhancing and repairing of wetlands
Improving Soil Health
Establishment and use of cover crops, green manures, and poly-cropping
Improvement of marginalized land and depleted soil health
Fencing
Establishment of cross fencing for rotational grazing
Establishment of riparian fencing
Establishment of fencing for marginalized lands/depleted soils
Establishment of fencing wetlands/dugout for alternate watering systems
Alternate Watering Systems
Creation of watering systems as an alternative to livestock drinking from a wetlands, river, creek, or lake
Tree Planting/Shelterbelts
Expanding an existing shelterbelt
Adding different tree species to existing shelterbelts
Pruning/removal with replacement of dead or diseased trees
Incentive
The Redboine Watershed District offers financial and technical support for eligible landowners. This includes:
Water retention
Up to 85% of establishment costs
Grassed run and waterways overland flooding
Up to $100/acre (up to 85% of establishment costs)
Erosion control
Up to 85% of establishment costs
Riparian areas
Up to $100/acre (up to 85% of estamishment costs)
Wetlands
Up to $150/acre (up to 85% of establishment costs)
Improving soil health
Up to 85% of establishment costs
Fencing
Up to 85% of establishment costs
Alternate watering systems
Up to 85% of establishment costs
Tree planting/shelterbelts
50% cost of plastic mulch
$3/tree automatic funding
Well sealing
Up to 70% of costs
Woodlot management:
Up to 75% of cost of certified arborist
