Program Summary
Manitoba Habitat Conservancy's Conservation Agreements (CA) are legal contracts, registered on the land’s title, designed to provide protection of wildlife habitat in perpetuity. This voluntary agreement is between a private landowner and MHC within which the landowner decides which areas of habitat to enroll in the program and agrees to retain their natural habitat. MHC uses Conservation Agreements to conserve wetland, grassland, woodland, and riparian habitats.

Commitment
Landowners sign a perpetual Conservation Agreement with MHC which is registered on the title of the land and runs with the property, and which commits to certain land management practices in order to promote wildlife and their habitat.
Incentive
This program provides a one-time payment to landowners, who may also receive technical support and federal tax breaks if eligible. The website contains very little information on the compensation amounts or calculations. Landowners will need to contact the program for that information.

Conservation Agreements in Manitoba are equivalent to conservation easements in AB and SK.
MHC Conservation Agreements are tailored to allow the landowner to continue farming their productive lands while conserving natural habitat.
