Program Summary
The Alberta Conservation Association's (ACA's) Landowner Habitat Program provides a per-acre incentive and signage for landowners willing to sign an agreement to keep identified habitat areas from being developed, cleared, or otherwise utilized by agricultural production.

Conservation Goals
The program seeks to conserve key wildlife habitats and reduce habitat loss and fragmentation on privately owned land.
Eligible Lands
Eligible lands include private lands within Alberta that haven’t been cleared or excessively altered.
Additional Details
A condition of the agreement is for landowner to provide reasonable public foot access upon request.
Participants in the program are acknowledged with a landowner recognition sign and are provided with Use Respect - Ask First signage identifying their contact information.
Agreement timelines range from five to twenty years.
Commitment
Landowners enter into a legally-binding Habitat Retention Agreement, wherein they commit to retain idled land for a term of five to twenty years, and to keep the identified habitat area from being developed, cleared, or otherwise utilized by agricultural production.
Incentive
By entering into the Habitat Retention Agreements, landowners are eligible to receive a financial incentive of up to $10/acre for the habitat area kept from being developed, cleared, or otherwise utilized by agricultural production.
